Big Pine's No Name Pub!
The No Name Pub, Casual Dining at it's Very Best!
We often find ourselves in the southern most "Keys", many times with no real reason to be there. But when we do end up in the lower islands, we enjoy a couple of hours at the No Name Pub on Big Pine Key. It's just a great place eat! “And I find chopsticks frankly distressing. Am I alone in thinking it odd that a people ingenious enough to invent paper, gunpowder, kites and any number of other useful objects, and who have a noble history extending back 3,000 years haven't yet worked out that a pair of knitting needles is no way to capture food?” - Bill Bryson The Pub is a part of the Florida Keys history. In 1931 it was built as a general store and a bait and tackle shop. Then in 1936, the owners added another room as an eatery and thus, the Pub was born! In the 1950's, the general store and the tackle shop were shut down and the "No Name" was added to the original name of "Pub", and thus, the "No Name Pub"! Driving to Key West down the Overseas Highway is always beautiful. Once on Big Pine, you might as well stop at the Pub and eat, drink and enjoy the offerings. There is no sense in denying yourself the pleasure. You will always want to return. The No Name Pub. The oldest bar on the Key. Here you will find that the beer is ice cold and you are welcome the second you walk through the door! Although the pub is famous for it's pizzas, everything on the menu is 1st class. The ambiance is super relaxed. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you belong. The truth is you do. If you are looking for a special place, this is it. You don't need to dress up to dine here. With a down home touch and some backwoods thrown in, this is definitely our kind of place and truly a`locals favorite! As they say:
It's nice place if you can find it!
"Warning" Just a quick word of warning. The Pub is located next to the National Key Deer Refuge. The deer are all over the island but seem to be most prevelant on the northern portion, so please be careful when driving to and from the "Pub". The refuge estimates the endangered "Key Deer" population between 600 and 750 deer. The deer are most active at dawn or dusk. Keep this in mind, drive a little slower than usual and enjoy another Florida Keys and Big Pine's treasure!
