Florida Keys and Key West
Beaches

Your Guide to Key Largo Beaches, Key West Beaches, and all Beaches in Between!

Unlike the beaches in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, the Florida Keys and Key West beaches are smaller. Most have less sand than you might expect. Most are bordered by the "Mangroves" and probably have a few more rocks than you are used to.

Compared to the beaches of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, the "Keys" beaches seem more, well, personable. It's kind of like, you belong here!

The good news, the "Keys" beaches are special in their own right! It's their differences that give them their "Keys" feeling.

It's these differences that make them so special. Once you visit these beaches, you'll see what I mean. They have a personality all their own! Sometimes the beach areas get a little crowded, but other times you might have a beach to yourself. One thing for sure, you won't have to contend with the crowds up north!

Keep in mind that you can see the ocean and the bay from many spots along the Overseas Highway. Most of the beaches you will come across are "just off the road", so to speak. There are a few that are kind of hidden out but they all are easy to find and access. Once you have the pleasure of spending some time on these beaches, you will find yourself wanting to return again and again and again....

"The beach is a magical place. A place meant to be explored barefoot. A place where all sound is created by the elements. You go to a beach with questions, sift through the sand for answers, and leave with a renewed sense of self." - Jim Champion

You will find Florida Keys and Key West beaches are not only used for sunning and reading, but fishing, snorkeling, BBQ's, family outings and many other activities! Although sunning and reading probably hold the top two positions!

Some of our best times are just getting together with friends and family and hitting a beach. A great way to relax and forget about the world back home! Below you will find a list of beaches throughout the keys and their locations. on your next trip down, plan on some serious R&R!

"Here's a Tip for Beach Photography!"

"Two common problems with beach photography are sloped horizons and centered horizons. Consciously square up your shot to avoid the angled horizon and keep the horizon out of the center of the photo. Compose your shot using the top or bottom third of the frame. That way your shot won't look cut in half!"

Florida Keys and Key West Beaches

Key Largo Beaches

John Pennekamp State Park

MM 102.5 Oceanside
JP is a great spot to spend some time. There are a couple of beach areas but these areas are relatively small. We've never been there when it was too busy to use. Excellent snorkeling and swimming are available right off the beaches. All in all, a nice place to relax for awhile. There are many recreational activities available for the whole family. Camping, diving, kayak rentals, equipment rentals, and much more. There is a store and showers available!

Tavernier Beaches

Harry Harris Park

MM 92.5 Oceanside
Harry Harris Park is a popular hangout for the locals and the daytrippers. It's a man made beach with most of the amenities you need for a day in the sun. A portion of the park is outlined by a stone jetty that creates a protected tidal pool for the youngsters to wade and swim. The park features playgrounds, a ball field, a small beach, bike path, covered pavilion, restrooms, showers, a boat ramp, grills and picnic tables. Harry Harris is a great place for families! The park is open from sunrise to sunset. There is a park fee on Saturday, Sunday and Federal Holidays of $5 per person over 16 years of age. (applicable to non-residents only)

Islamorada Beaches

Anne's Beach

MM 72.3 Oceanside
Anne's Beach is just one of those perfect spots. An excellent place to re-group and find yourself. A boardwalk through the mangroves creates a very natural and aesthetic setting. Covered picnic tables are great when a little shade is needed. The parking is limited but there is usually room! Oh, by the way, Anne's beach is known as nude beach so don't be shocked if you catch someone sunning "el natural".

Library Beach and Park

MM 81.5 Bayside
This beach is located behind the Islamorada Public Library. The village of Islamorada owns it and the locals call it Library Beach. This is a nice area. It has playground equipment along the water. There are picnic benches, tropical foliage, and a sandy beach! This is still a hidden gem and crowds are rare!

Holiday Isle Beach

MM 80.2 Oceanside
Holiday Isle beach is located in the Holiday Isle complex, which includes hotels, restaurants , tiki bars , and a charter fishing fleet. Holiday Isle policy "You don't have to stay here to play here" means that the beach and pool facilities are open to the public. In addition to the beach and pool there are jet ski and boat rentals. There is also fishing and diving charters and a marina

Marathon Beaches

Sombrero Beach

MM 50 Oceanside
One of the nicest beaches in the "Keys"! Sombrero makes relaxing easy and natural. Ocean side and very beautiful views. It's off the beaten path, calm and quiet. Sombrero has sand and lots of it. The facilities are new and include restrooms, benches, shade structures and walking/biking paths. There is plenty of parking at the beach and there is a beautiful little park adjacent to the beach!

Coco Plum Beach

MM 53 Oceanside
The island of Coco Plum is home to this beautiful sandy beach. If you are looking to take a romantic stroll on the beach, this is the place! Here you will mingle with locals and tourists alike.

Big Pine Beaches

Key West Beaches

Smathers Beach

MM 1.9 Oceanside
Locals and tourists alike enjoy Smathers. One of a few Key West beaches, Smathers has it all. You can rent anything you need to enjoy the water. Food and drink is available by beach vendors. The beach also sports fresh showers, restrooms, and volley ball courts. Parking, no problem!
