An Excellent Hurricane Drink Recipe!

Here's a Hurricane I Enjoy!

Hurricane cocktail

For all of you Rum drinkers out there, here's a Hurricane drink recipe that will change the attitude at any latitude!

If you are going to have a Hurricane, this is definitely the kind to have.

As with all great recipes, whether food or drink, changes are made from one to another as they are passed along. Some are altered, many improved and a few are totally transformed. The rules of the recipe are meant to be altered to suit your individual taste.

The following cocktail recipe is a tried and true favorite among rum drinkers! Try a "Hurricane" at your next get together!

Try this "Hurricane" and if you like it, pay it forward!
Share it with your family and friends!

The Hurricane!!

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1/4 oz grenadine syrup
  • 1 oz gin
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1/2 oz 151 rum or a dark anejo rum makes a good substitute
  • 1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • grapefruit juice
  • pineapple juice

To Mix:

Pour all but the juices, in order listed, into a "Hurricane" glass three-quarters filled with ice.
Fill with equal parts of grapefruit and pineapple juice, and serve.

A Nice Option: Rum drinks are famous for a rum "float" on the top. A dark anejo rum such as "Brugal Rum" makes a nice finishing touch. Usually a 151 is called for, but for flavor, try the anejo!

The creation of the "Hurricane" cocktail is credited to Pat O'Brien of New Orleans. O'Brien had to get rid of the rum he was forced to buy before he could purchase other spirits, so he whipped up the concoction and gave it away to the sailors. It turned out to be a hit and remains a popular rum drink today!

Beware!

Another of the 5 ounce bad boys. Go easy with this one, unless you're in the habit of carrying around your pillow and blanket.

Always Drink Responsibly!
