Fantasy Fest is a Hoot!

If you happen to find yourself around the Keys in October, DO NOT miss Fantasy Fest in Key West! What an experience! Being a reasonably new resident to South Miami (5 years), I had heard much about Fantasy Fest with most people comparing it to Mardi Gras, tropical style. Well, that's mild. It took company coming specifically to go to FF (and I thought they were coming to see me) to get me there the first time.
You have to start with an open mind (and a few beers helps, too), and a willingness to jump in and enjoy. Armed with those tools, you can't help but have one of the most unusual and fun experiences in your life. The rules of the road?
Pack light -- you will be up down Duval Steet lots
The usuals -- sun protection, casual clothes and comfortable shoes, water for in between beers (you will last longer and feel better tomorrow), cameras, and your personal basics for a day full of fun
The proper "Keys Attitude" -- no worries!
Check for the specific dates, as they can shift due to weather, etc. If you are staying in Key West for the festivities, plan way ahead and make reservations early. If you are "day-tripping" it, there are lots of private parking areas set up within easy walking distance that provide some security for your vehicle.
Just give it a shot -- it's a real hoot!
