Diving in the Florida Keys!
There is a whole lot of diving in the Florida Keys! This Island chain runs approximately 120 miles south west from Key Largo to Key West. The coral reef lies from 5 to 7 miles offshore and runs the length of the island chain.
The "Keys" are home to the only living barrier reef in North America. You will find ample diving opportunities available from Key Biscayne National Park to the Dry Tortugas! This coral reef system is famous for it's abundance of beautiful reef fish and various coral formations. There are many shallow reefs that can be enjoyed by snorkeling or you can find dives that will satisfy everyone from the new and novice to the most seasoned and experienced diver.
“As a diver you are weightless and can move in all directions. You approach the freedom of a bird as you move in three dimensions in a fluid environment.” - Dennis Garver As this site grows, we will bring you information on specific dive sites. We will also be adding articles sent in by various contributors, friends and family! Keep checking back for info on your favorite dives, or better yet, send us your article on one of your "Keys" dives! Between the reefs, the wrecks, and the fish, the diving possibilities are endless. It's what makes diving in the Florida Keys so wonderful! "Here's a Tip!" When diving the "Keys" reef system, or any coral reef system for that matter, leave the dive site better than you found it and leave as little impact on the dive site as possible. Keep your boats, anchors, and dive buddies off the coral! |
The large majority of the dive sites you can visit are equipped with mooring buoys for the boaters to tie off to. This keeps the dive boats from dropping anchor and possibly damaging the reefs. There are many Florida Keys scuba charters available throughout the islands. These companies have professional staffs, provide friendly service, and are extremely knowledgeable about the local dive sites and current conditions at any given time. You will find many of our favorite dive charters and dive shops on this site but, above all, do your homework. Many different diving packages are available to you so do your homework and find a company that will tailor a package to your specific needs!
