A Wonderful Conch Salad Recipe

This Conch Salad Recipe is one of the best conch recipes we've tried. An excellent salad with plenty of heat, spice and tradition!

The Conch Salad is a Bahamian staple. Go just about anywhere in the Bahamas or South Florida and you will find it on the menu.

It's a robust recipe and explodes with flavor. It's a great choice for friends and family get togethers.

The conch in this recipe is actually cooked by the citrus acids that are added.

As with all recipes, experiment a little. Adjust the amounts to fit your taste!




Conch Salad Recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of uncooked conch
  • 1 medium diced onion
  • about 1 cup of diced celery
  • 3 meduium chopped tomatos
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 minced Scotch bonnet
  • 1 minced habanero pepper
  • 1/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • juice of 2 fresh limes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper


Preparation:

Put conch between 2 sheets of heavy duty plastic wrap

Beat conch into submission (till it's about 1/4 to 1/2 in thick)

Dice conch into small 1/4 inch pieces

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well

Cover and place in fridge for at lest three hours. Overnight is wonderful

Serve chilled


Pairing:

Iced tea, ice cold Kalik (or beer of choice)!
