- Drew Carey
This past weekend we found ourselves with cabin fever on the first cold snap of the season (68 degrees). So we bundled up in our levis (took sweat-shirts just in case) and drove down to Big Pine Key.
The ride along the Overseas Highway was beautiful and once on Big Pine, we stopped by one of our favorite haunts to eat. The No Name Pub. The oldest pub on the Key, this place is the perfect place to stop, take a break, and get yourself a great meal. The beer is ice cold and you are welcome the second you walk through the door!
Although the pub is famous for it's pizzas, Ju and Amber split a shrimp basket and I went for the charbroiled angus burger. All excellent as always. I don't know why I get stuck in a rut for burgers. It's like I'm on a quest for the best! Well, I can tell you this. If this place doesn't have the best burger going, you can't tell the difference.
The ambiance is great. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you belong. The truth is you do. If you are looking for a special place, this is it. You don't need to dress up to dine here. With a down home touch and some backwoods thrown in, this is definitely my kind of place and truly a`locals favorite!
Just a word of "Warning". The Pub is located in the National Keys Deer Sanctuary. The deer are all over the place so please be careful when driving to and from.
We are super excited about our up and coming newsletter, "Rum Runners"! We are launching our first edition on Jan. 1st, 2009! We will be sending it out monthly and hope to share with you info on the "Keys" and upcoming events, and anything else we think may interest you. Be sure to subscribe so you won't miss a single issue.

Fay is now north of Cuba and on it's way north. We have spent the last couple of days getting ready and helping our kids get locked down in Key Largo. The northern-most bands of Fay are hitting the upper Keys and Homestead area now (Monday, 8-18-08, 9:10 am ). The projected path keeps Fay to the center and west of center of the state. So, to all of our Florida family and friends from Key West north, Good Luck and stay safe. Maybe we will just get a lot of much needed rain and very little of the not needed blow! We'll keep our fingers crossed. To follow Fay's path, Click Here! Aug 12, 2008, Cafe Las Brisas, oh yea!
We had lunch at the "Cafe Las Brisas" on Sunday. If you haven't tried it, try it. Brad makes some of the best sandwiches in the "Keys". I had a skirt steak sandwich that was better than great! The gals had their old standby, turkey sandwiches. The meals are huge so you can usually get 2 meals out of one sandwich. We highly recommend you try this place out. Just relax and watch the boats go by while you experience an excellent meal. You can find the "Cafe Las Brisas" hiding out under the Tavernier Creek bridge.
